Kaka Sohrab Khan, a resilient farmer from the Gozarah district of Herat, Afghanistan, embodies the spirit of hope and determination. With a family of five children - two lovely daughters and 3 energetic boys - Kaka Sohrab’s life revolves around not just nurturing his family but also nurturing his dreams.
(Kaka means uncle, culturally we use this word out of respect for elders.)
For the past six years, Kaka Sohrab has been an integral part of the Heray Spice cooperative, cultivating saffron on his five-acre plot of land. To him, saffron isn't just a crop; it's a symbol of a better future for his children. He knows that education holds the key to a brighter tomorrow for his family, and every thread of saffron he carefully tends to represents an opportunity for his children to escape the cycle of poverty.
Kaka Sohrab’s day begins with the golden rays of the sun, as he tends to his saffron fields. His hard work and dedication are the cornerstones of Heray Spice's commitment to ethical sourcing. He's not just a farmer; he's a custodian of tradition, culture, and dreams.
