Grown in the arid, valleys of this historic province, these green raisins are celebrated for their exceptional flavor, elongated shape, and stunning jade-green color.
What makes Herat’s raisins so special is the centuries-old method used to produce them. After the grapes are picked at peak ripeness, they are carefully laid out in special drying houses known as kishmish khanas—mudbrick structures with ample airflow that allow the grapes to dry slowly and evenly. This traditional Afghan technique preserves the natural sugars and nutrients, resulting in a raisin that’s not only beautifully chewy and slightly tangy but also rich in antioxidants and free from additives or preservatives.
